Can They Say That?:
Choosing Allyship and
Inclusive Practice
As global conversations around equity and inclusion encounter continued scepticism and fatigue, the work of allyship has never been more essential. In this year-end episode, we will be joined by Dr Poornima Luthra, Principal Lecturer in People, Culture and Inclusion at Imperial College London and author of Can I Say That? and The Art of Active Allyship, to explore how individuals and organisations can move beyond silence and hesitation toward meaningful, values-driven action.
As we arrive at the close of a full year of Translocating Inclusion, we find ourselves reflecting on conversations that have carried us across geographies, sectors, and systems. Together with our guests, we explored everything from global belonging practices to inclusive branding, from designing neuroinclusive spaces to centering core values and human dignity. Across each conversation, we held complexity with courage and remembered that inclusion is a practice shaped both by the world around us and by the choices we make within it. In this final episode of the year, we turn toward a question that echoes across borders: What does allyship look like when resistance feels brazen and unrelenting?
Indeed, many practitioners and leaders are closing the year in a posture of reflection, wondering how to remain principled amid a broader landscape that remains tense and uncertain.
Drawing on Dr Luthra’s global scholarship and hands-on experience, we will reflect on the year that has been while considering the daily choices and commitments that build trust and shape inclusive cultures. We’ll unpack how inclusive practice takes form in the ways we listen, respond to harm, make decisions, and stay anchored in human-centred values, especially when the environment grows challenging. This conversation is for anyone ready to recommit to the habits, mindsets, and relational choices that sustain inclusion as a principle and keep it grounded as we step into a new year.
